Utility closet full of black mold.

When the water heater broke the homeowners replaced it quickly thinking the water would evaporate on its own. However, the water was trapped under the drywall and in-between the baseboards. Evaporation was too slow along the baseboards which allowed mold to grow.

Placing a dehumidifier in the closet helped dry out the baseboards quickly. The dehumidifier puts off some heat as it runs which evaporated the water more quickly and dried moisture out of the air. Without the moisture the mold could no longer spread. The damage was very small and the homeowners did not want to make a claim.
